To assist in learning vocabulary for their final exam, the class of 2010 created visual tableaus of their vocabulary words. You can see a few examples below. As you prepare for your first quarter exam, I would encourage you to create your own visual tableaus for the vocabulary and post your pictures here on the wiki. I will feature the best tableaus on the class blog. Be sure that you caption your photos with the word, part of speech and definition in context. Thanks to Sinda, Gabe, Loic and Stephanie for their creative idea--last year's English II students got the highest vocab grades on their finals EVER!
pate--n. the human head, especially the top
prodigious--adj. Impressively great in size, force, or extent; enormous
gorgon--n. an ugly or terrifying woman
carrion--n: dead, rotten, vile, and putrefying flesh- or anything, for that matter.
incarnate--adj: embodied in flesh, generally in humanoid form. (can also mean 'crimson', which also applies.)
foreboding--n: a strong inner feeling or notion of a future misfortune, evil, et cetera.
affront--n: a show of disrespect
bane(n.)-- a person or thing that spoils or destructs
feigning (v.)-- to give false appearance of
yoke--n: a device that encircles the neck/chest of a draft animal for the purposes of pulling a carriage, cart, plow, et cetera.
filch--v: to steal, especially something of minimal value
dote--v: to show foolish and/or excessive affection
flout--v: to mock
inconstant--adj: changeable, fickle, variable. Not constant.
beguile (v)-- to influence with trickery; mislead
enmity--n: a condition or feeling of hostility
progeny--n: a descendant; offspring- something that originates from something else: an outcome or an issue.
fawn (v.)-- to seek favor ot attention by flattery and obsequious behavior
enamored--adj: to be inspired with love; captivated
